Here’s to your healthA free Senior Health Expo is set for Friday, July 20, at the Dick Dewees Community & Senior Center in Lompoc from 9 a.m. until noon. The Expo offers activities, resources and fun, all free of charge for older adults. For participants, there will be a free Kiwanis barbecue lunch, music by Victorize Entertainment and hourly prize drawings. Health screenings will be offered that can provide an early alert to health concerns before symptoms are noticeable.

CERT trainingThe City of Solvang in conjunction with the Santa Barbara County Fire Department will offer CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training classes beginning Mondays from Aug. 20 to Oct. 15, from 6-9 p.m. at the Solvang Veterans Memorial Building. The final class will include a disaster drill. Space is limited to 30 students. The cost for the class is $40, which covers an emergency kit. The class is open to all residents of the Santa Ynez Valley.

On the tableThe Santa Ynez Valley Jewish Community presents its third annual farm to table event, slated for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28, in Los Olivos at the Bernat Family Vineyard in Los Olivos. “In the Vineyard & On the Farm” will be hosted by Sam and Shawnda Marmorstein, owners of the Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Café.

August galaValleystock, a Santa Ynez Valley celebration, music festival and fundraiser, is slated for Live Oak Camp on Aug. 4-5. The idea grew out of a Facebook page started by an ex-Valley resident.
Any local musicians or groups interested in donating their talent and time to this charity event, use the contact information below. The Santa Ynez Elks will provide barbecue dinners Saturday and Sunday with a Sunday morning breakfast. Price per adult is $60, which includes admission to Live Oak (camping optional), all meals, live music and other activities.

Postal annexSunrise Coffee House in Buellton recently expanded its services to include PostalAnnex+, which includes private mailbox rental, office supplies, shipping services, color printing and faxing. The postal business, located at 234 E. Highway 246, is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
An affair to rememberThe 11th annual “A Western Affair” is on the horizon for Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Hearst Ranch in Old San Simeon Village. The event celebrates Western heritage while benefitting the California’s Rangeland Trust.

Sing a songThe Santa Barbara Choral Society (SBCS) is holding auditions for new singers from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Music Academy of the West in Montecito. What’s cookingArts Outreach invites interested male chefs to cook up their favorite recipes at the 21st annual fundraiser, “Real Men Cook.” This year’s event is set from 6-10 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at Flag is Up Farms in Solvang. Tickets are $60 in advance, $65 at the door. Real Men Cook is a fundraiser for the Santa Ynez Valley nonprofit arts organization Arts Outreach.
