Music on the GreenThursday evenings throughout the summer in front of New Frontiers. Featuring an all-natural beef, chicken and vegetarian barbecue, including side salads, melon, drinks and old-fashioned Ice Cream Social, with free ice cream for all. This year’s lineup is: Aug. 2 - Cuesta Ridge, Aug. 9 - The Honeycombs, Aug. 16 - Doug Groshart, Aug. 23 - The Grasshoppers.
Aug. 4 and 5Valleystock, a Santa Ynez Valley celebration, music festival and fundraiser, will be held out at Live Oak Camp. Currently there are 10 bands scheduled to perform, with more being added weekly. Any local musicians or groups interested in donating their talent and time to this charity event use the contact information below. The Santa Ynez Elks will be providing BBQ dinners Sat-Sun with a Sunday morning breakfast. Price per adult is $60, which includes admission to Live Oak (camping optional), all meals, live music. Optional pricing available. Money raised at Valleystock will go to benefit various SYVUHS Music and Arts Programs. Thursday, Aug. 9Valley-wide Parent Teacher Association, Parent Teacher Organization conference at Santa Ynez High School from 10 a.m-noon. This is the first time this type of meeting will be held and if the response is positive there could be more. It will be a great opportunity to meet parents from other local schools, as well as share ideas and resources. The meeting is open to the public and all Valley schools’ parents, teachers and administrators (elementary through high school) are encouraged to attend. Guest speakers from the 15th District PTA, Sheriff’s Department, high school, People Helping People, Valley Foundation and more will address topics such as school safety, grant opportunities for local schools, healthy foods for growing minds, valley-wide calendaring opportunities and much more. Saturday, Aug. 1826th Annual Los Olivos Quick Draw and Art Auction from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. featuring artwork by 25 nationally recognized artists. A preview wine and dessert reception to be held on Friday, Aug. 17 from 7-8:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church; music provided by Jerry Coelho. On Saturday, artists and crowds will gather in the Lavinia Campbell Park at 10 a.m. at the corner of Grand and Alamo Pintado avenues at the flag pole. The Quick Draw competition will begin at 11 a.m. The live auction will begin at 12:15 p.m. The silent auction will be at the Grange Hall from 9 a.m -2:30 p.m. Other works by the artists will be on display and available for sale at St. Mark’s-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church parish hall from 1-5 p.m., with a reception for the artists from 2-4 p.m. Stop by the Rotary food booth and purchase a lunch item from their barbecue selection.
