The Santa Ynez Valley Historical Museum hosted an opening reception on Sunday, July 8th to showcase their newest exhibit, “Celebrating Los Olivos—120 Years Young”.  Museum director, Chris Bashforth, and exhibit manager, Curt Cragg, were on hand to greet guests and answer questions as many admired the varied photos and historical items chronicling the development of Los Olivos at the turn of the century.

Refreshments were served in the courtyard, while inside an original Powers Camera-graph 613 (circa 1906) projected a silent, black and white, Buster Keaton in The General, against the very screen and advertisement billboard that once hung in the Liberty Theater almost a century ago. The exhibit will be on display through end of October. Museum hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 12 to 4p.m. For exhibit information call (805) 688-7889 or visit: www.syvm.org.

Two Local Girls Have a Lucky Day
Local country music fans Alexa age, 13 and Hannah Borroel age 17 got the “Lucky Day” of a lifetime while in Nashville, TN at the CMA Music Festival last month. While waiting for their favorite band, Sugarland, to come on stage, Cheryl Burke from “Dancing with the Stars” picked the sisters and a friend from Nashville, Melissa Greenfield age, 17, out of a crowd of 200,000 fans and whisked them back stage for a private meeting with the artists.

“We were totally surprised and in denial.”  Hannah says of the experience. The sisters don’t know why they were picked, but they guess it had something to do with the Sugarland fan t-shirts they were wearing. They spent a few minutes backstage alone with the musical duo, took some photos, and watched the performers, Jennifer and Christian, have an interview before taking the stage.
This isn’t the first time Alexa and Hannah have met their music idols face to face. Their first encounter was at a concert at Gainey Vineyard, the second a chance meeting outside a hotel. At another meeting the girls brought them a bottle of local Carhartt wine, no doubt the reason Sugarland remembered them so readily backstage at their CMA concert.
