Astronomy Night at Cachuma

By Leanne Elliott

Chuck McParflin from the Santa Barbara Astronomical Unit conducted an hour-long educational slide show at the Cachuma Lake Fireside Theater on Friday, July 27th. As the sun went down in a blaze over Cachuma Lake, Mr. McParflin gave a brief but interesting overview of our solar system, and the planetary galaxies that make up our celestial skies.

After the slideshow, campers were invited onto the lawn to peer through a series of high powered telescopes, manned by Astronomical Unit members, that magnified Jupiter, the moon, and a globular cluster located in the direction of the Hercules Constellation, 20,000 light years away. The slideshow and viewing were sponsored by the Cachuma Lake Nature Center. For more information on upcoming events, visit www.cachuma.com.
