Dear Editor

On Aug. 13 at 7 p.m., the Solvang City Council will hear a proposal regarding increase in horse-drawn carriage activity in the Solvang commercial and RESIDENTIAL areas. Although all the facts are not in as of yet, the concern is that this proposal could be accepted without proper input from Solvang residents. One of the major considerations of adding additional horse traffic is the impact it will have on already overburdened streets.
It is very important that citizens of Solvang get involved in this issue by attending the Aug. 13 meeting. If you cannot attend, please contact the council at the numbers below:
Mayor Palmer: 688-1370- kenpalmersolvang@yahoo.com
Councilman Boyle: 245-0979- Boyle@citysolvang.com
Councilwoman Jackson: 688-0701- Lindasolvang@solvangcc.org
Councilman Richardson: 688-1659- Jimr@cityofsolvang.com
Councilman Skitt: 688-6447- ehsnras@silcom.com

Dear Editor,

In May of 2007 my mother of 78 years was suddenly taken ill with a condition that needed immediate surgery. After a week in the hospital she was released, however, was in no condition to continue life as usual alone at home. My mother needed a period of time to recover with the assistance of professionals that could help her through the necessary rehabilitation.

When faced with options of care for my mother, I began to panic as I realized there may not be any place close to home to help her. A friend suggested that I call the Solvang Lutheran Home and Recovery Residence. Our whole family was extremely relieved to learn they could accommodate my mother’s needs.
My mother was released from the hospital into the care of the Lutheran Home.

They reassured us that she had a place with them as long as necessary. The therapists and staff were wonderful. They worked with my mom and our family to prepare her to live back at home as she did before the surgery.

The staff at the Recovery Residence was incredibly accommodating and helpful. After only a few short weeks my mom was released to go home. She is now doing very well living her life as she did before.

Thank you Solvang Lutheran Home and Recovery Residence for the guidance and support you gave to my family. My mother had achieved great success thanks to you.
- Sincerely,
Michael E. Kraus DC

Dear Editor,

Just wanted to let you all know how much we enjoy and appreciate the Valley Journal and the job you are doing.
Nancy Crawford-Hall, the article “Media Rights and Responsibilities” is excellent. Please keep telling it like it is before we all give up hope.
It is refreshing to read your paper, don’t change a thing.

- Best,
Jeanne Shannon

Response - Thanks for your support and don’t ever give up hope! Good sense has to prevail someday. We intend to keep telling it “like it is” indefinitely! Nch

Dear Editor,

Valley 4-H would like to thank all the buyers at this year’s Santa Barbara County Junior Livestock Sale. Your support of our youth, be it our own club members or any 4H, FFA, Grange and Independent members, is greatly appreciated. The experience these children get from raising animals is an experience that will last a lifetime. We would also like to thank the parents of our club, Gail and Russell Tomasini and Kevin Petersen. Without your continued help and support throughout the year, we would not be able to get everything done.

- Thank you,
Rick & Sandra Tomasini, 4H Swine and Former Community Leader.
