Drama Fast Facts

Santa Ynez 4-H kids of any age will find fun and reward galore in this terrific project offering; budding thespians of any skill level are encouraged to join this successful, teen-led troupe.

An initial meeting in the fall kicks off the action, in what is a highly interactive course of theater games, diction and projection practice, character study, skit production, and finally, presentation.

While the only real goal is to simply enjoy the comrades and closeness that belonging to a dedicated team can bring. Each year our dramatists seek to share their talents publicly, staging one well-rehearsed skit for parents, relatives and friends, at County Presentation Day in Santa Barbara — at the Earl Warren Showground.

Parents and members from 4-H clubs throughout Santa Barbara County are on hand for the annual event, which affords 4-H’ers ample opportunity to demonstrate skills in various disciplines, including: public speaking, story telling, mock trials, song leading, and presentations — as well as something 4-H affectionately calls Share the Fun.

Our February Club meeting started off this month with a fun activity. We made Valentines for Senior Citizens in the Valley. Since the communications class was over, The adult leader, Lida Siddaris asked if anyone was interested in giving their speech at the meeting.

I took this chance to redeem myself as a public speaker. On February 10th, it was County Presentation Day . It was held at The Earl Warren Showgrounds. It was a busy day of 4H activities. First, they had a new casual system of checking in this year. It was a first come first serve basis. This relieved a lot of pressure for the participants. It didn’t seem as scary to check in.The first events were the speeches. Each person is assigned a room with 3 judges. They are put into an order based on their check in time. Each room has 4H er’s that assist with the rooms . They are called room monitor’s and runners. The runners actually run the judges results over to the tally room.

Everyone from The Santa Ynez 4H Club received a gold this year. This means that they are able to give their speech again at the next level which is called The Regional Presentation Day. The Regional event this year will also be held at The Earl Warren Showgrounds. However, instead of it only being a Presentation Day this year, The county 4H is including the craft and food festival, along with the fashion review. For those of you who have never attended anything like this, now would be the time to go. It has a lot of very creative entries .

Our Club drama team entered the “ Share For Fun” skits. The title of their skit was” Robin Hood and his men search for a Merry 4H.” The skit was written and directed by the teen leader Olivia Rotunno. The skit received a gold and will go on to perform at the March club meeting and The Regional Presentation Day. The skit performers included, myself, (Taylor Carty), Linden Carty, Olivia Rotunno, Aiden Rotunno, Izzy Anderegg, Tyler Bunderson, Kayc Bunderson, and Jack Carty.

Congratulations to all . It is just like everyone tells you…You are winner just for participating! Ms Carty is the 2006-2007 Santa Ynez 4-H Reporter. She’s in sixth grade and loves Algebra, baking and acting. She lives with family in Ballard along with her cats Rosie and Champ, dog Sandy, horses Secret and Bicard, and Buddy the fish.
