Buellton and Solvang cities are seeking applicants for openings on their parks and recreation commissions.

Kyle Abello, Buellton coordinator, said the new Buellton position will expire in December, 2008, and that applicants must be residents of Buellton. The position is voluntary. Commission meetings are held on the fourth Monday every month.

The Solvang position, open until filled, offers a $100-a-month stipend. Meetings are held once a month on the third Monday at the Solvang City Hall. This position is also for one year.

Another position, to be open for public review later in December, after an internal job search, will be for the position of maintenance supervisor with the Solvang Department of Public Works. The responsibility, a new position, was created after the retirement of Brian Just, deputy director of Public Works. The position, awaiting a job description and specifics by the city attorney, allows the department to keep more employees in the field to service citizens.

The job will include street maintenance drainage, caring for the urban forest, and facilities maintenance. More information is available from Abello in Buellton, or Kristen Thomsen, director of parks and recreation in Solvang.
