Art and wine a
fine blend at Artiste
What
began as a vision for Linda and Bion Rice, blending fine wine and fine art, is
a reality at Artiste Winery and Tasting Studio on Sagunto Street in Santa
Ynez.
On
Dec. 1, a large contingent of Artiste members and non-members gathered to
celebrate the art of Sonoma County painter Craig Nelson and the fall release of
Artiste’s new wines, Sacred Light, a Grenache-Syrah-Mourvedre
blend, and Reflection, a Pinot Noir-Syrah-Syrah Rosé blend.
Nelson’s
use of richly painted oil-on-canvas infused with what he calls “sacred light”
offers a chance to reflect on those often-missed moments in life. In a warm, relatable way he captures the
essence of his subjects going through their daily motions. His current focus is
on dancers, vineyard workers and Italian scenes. His work will be on display
all month at Artiste.
With
food prepared by New West Catering, guests filled their passport books as they
stopped by stations that represented France, Italy, Spain and Portugal while
absorbing the sounds of international folk music by Raggedy Ann.
A
fun twist to Artiste was the opportunity to explore one’s own artistic side. A
canvas was on display on which each customer could paint or draw while tasting
Artiste’s unique blends of wine.
