Gilles Apap
to perform in S. B.
The
popular violinist Gilles Apap, former concertmaster
with the Santa Barbara Symphony, will perform a wide variety of music Dec. 15
at 8 p.m. at the Marjorie Luke Theater, 721 E. Cota
St., Santa Barbara. Compositions will include The Bluegrass Boys, Children of
the Barn, Growling Old Geezers, Gaptooth Mountain
Ramblers, and Bayou Seco.
The
performance, a CD release concert sponsored by Nellie Flanagan and Apapaziz Productions, is expecting a sell-out crowd
according to Janet Nelson, a spokesman with Santa Barbara Sheet Music, also a
sponsor of the event.
Apap said his new album is an hour of solo
music that he would play everywhere. “I’ve been doing this for years, just
going on the road with my fiddle,” he explained. Apap’s
music has been described as a crossover between classical, Bluegrass, old-time
Americana, Irish, gypsy, and club-style swing. He also ventures into Indian
music and other folk music.
Tickets, $30 for general admission and $20 for seniors
and students, are available at Santa Barbara Sheet Music, 1036 Santa Barbara
St., Santa Barbara.
