Winter in the Oaks benefits United
Boys & Girls Club
The
United Boys and Girls Club of Santa Barbara County held the first annual “Winter in the Oaks” dinner and auction on Dec. 8 at Camp
Whittier near Cachuma Lake. The afternoon event began
with a silent auction, followed by a special holiday dinner buffet, and
entertainment provided by the highly acclaimed Santa Ynez Youth Band and Santa
Ynez Valley Union High School Choir.
The
proceeds from the auction will go to fund The United Boys and Girls Club Camp
Whittier Scholarship Program, providing children ages 5-18 the opportunity to
attend summer camp in the months of July and August. Organizer Debi Hite
explained that the Club will award 200-300 scholarships this next year for the
Camp Whittier summer program.
The
United Boys and Girls Club has owned and operated Camp Whittier for nearly 15
years, and has the capacity to accommodate up to 170 campers. The Mission of
United Boys and Girls Club of Santa Barbara County is
“to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize
their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.”
