Annual Holiday Tea announced

Plan now to meet the cast and attend the annual fundraiser for Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts, scheduled Dec. 22 after the matinee of The Sound of Music. Seasonal goodies, holiday crafts, take-home souvenirs and photographs will be featured at the event, a “Few of My Favorite Things” Holiday Tea, limited to 100 patrons.

Tickets are $50 for adults and $35 for children. Price includes seats to The Sound of Music matinee performance and exclusive entry to the annual holiday tea.

Funds from the benefit will support the PCPA Foundation.

 

California artist plans show

Art by Jules Reuter will be shown at the Carina Cellars tasting room, 2900 Grand Ave., Los Olivos. The show, “Thirty Days in Tuscany: photos of the Val D’Orica,” runs through the end of January. Reuter is known for his landscapes of California, as well as vibrant colors and stark contrasts. He was a visual-effects editor for NBC and Fox and now lives in Guadalupe, where he works as an artist and travel photographer.

 

‘Creative Perceptions’ show continues

The work of Dorthea Dunlap is featured during December at The Gallery Los Olivos, 2920 Grand Ave., Los Olivos. The show, “Creative Perceptions,” includes watercolor, acrylic and collage. A reception with the artist was held at the Gallery on Dec. 9.

 

Santa Barbara to host Monterey Jazz Festival

The Monterey Jazz Festival will come to Santa Barbara during its 50th Anniversary Tour. The group, scheduled to perform Jan. 14 at UC Santa Barbara’s Campbell Hall, will feature Terence Blanchard, James Moody, Nnenna Freelon, Benny Green, Derrick Hodge and Kendrick Scott.

“We wanted to create a lasting legacy for our 50th anniversary,” said General Manager Tim Jackson. “To kick it off, we’ve assembled some of the masters of jazz who have a close relationship with the Festival to carry the MJF name across America. They embody the past, present and future of jazz history.”

Ensemble schedules recitals

The Mexican ensemble Cuarteto Latinoamericano will perform two recitals at the historic Eichheim House in Santa Barbara. Scheduled for Jan. 13 at 3 and 5 p.m., the Latin America string quartet will perform work by internationally renowned composers Francisco Mignone, Gabriela Ortiz, Reza Vali, Jorge Torres Saenz, and Heitor Villa-Lobos.

The award-winning group includes violinists Saul and Aaron Bitran, and their brother, Alvaro, cellist, as well as violist Javier Montiel. Formed in 1982, the quartet has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony, and the Dallas Symphony, as well as with numerous internationally-recognized orchestras.

 

Oil paintings on display

Oil paintings by Gwen Cates will be on display through December at the Ballard Inn and Restaurant, 2436 Baseline Ave., Ballard. The show will feature “Ranch and Vineyard” paintings, including landscapes in Santa Ynez Valley.

Cates also exhibits her paintings at Tantara Winery. She also has had solo exhibits at galleries in London, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. Last year her Colorscapes exhibit was shown at the Elverhøj Museum. Earlier this year her paintings were displayed at Wildling Art Museum with its Santa Ynez Valley Artists’ Studio Tour.
