Two
annual awards have been presented by the People Helping People Board of
Directors. Valerie Waling has received the “Employee of the Year” award and
Marjorie Hansen has been named “Volunteer of the Year.”
The
organization has presented employee awards for the past 10 years. Whaling
joined the organization this past year but “has already distinguished herself
for her commitment to her work and to the mission of People Helping People,”
said Dean Palius, PHP executive director. He said
Whaling has put in numerous extra hours, including weekends and evenings to
upgrade the group’s accounting system, setting an example for other employees.
“Her work ethic has inspired confidence in the accounting and payroll functions
of our organization,” he added.
Hansen,
a volunteer for 15 years, worked with the program before it became affiliated
with People Helping People. Palius said clients
“always leave with a smile on their faces when Marjorie is around.” He added,
“She brings a smile to all of our faces when she cares for others less
fortunate because of her positive attitude. Marjorie makes a difference in our
lives and the lives of our clients.”
People Helping People provides basic needs and family
support services to needy individuals and families in the Santa Ynez Valley,
