Buellton’s
new librarian, Liz Chapman, is looking forward to expanding the use of the
library’s new Children’s Room. A specialist in children’s literature, Chapman
brings 11 years of experience from working in the children’s libraries at
Lompoc Unified School District and Lompoc Public Library. She began her duties
on Dec. 10 at the Buellton Library, 140 W. Hwy. 246.
She
said she is already working on the summer reading program for youth in the area
and hopes to expand other programs and events that encourage reading and use of
the library facilities.
“Initially
we are working to help our patrons become adjusted to the new electronic
circulation system,” she said. “It will make the whole process more efficient
and allow us to be more accurate and accessible.”
She
is looking forward to receiving assistance from recent fundraisers. An
application also has been submitted to the Santa Barbara Foundation, which
would add four more computer stations for young adults in the main library and
two more stations for Internet access for young people in the children’s room.
“That will make a big difference on the services we are able to offer here,”
she said.
A
resident of Lompoc for the past 25 years, Chapman has a daughter, Katie, who is
finishing a degree in anthropology, and a son, Morgan, who works locally in
construction. Chapman worked in the Children’s department in Lompoc for the
past six years.
Hours at the Buellton Library are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Mondays and Tuesdays; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays, and 12:30
to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays; and closed Sundays.
