By Vallely Journal Staff
Police are still on the lookout for the driver and passengers of an older dark green Ford Explorer that was reported following a 9-year-old boy home from school, Thursday afternoon.
According to police records, the 9-year-old boy was walking home from Santa Ynez Charter School at approximately 4:40 p.m. crossing the intersection of Pine and Cuesta when the described vehicle stopped at the intersection to allow the boy to pass. The driver then allegedly offered the boy a ride. The boy also reported seeing two other people in the vehicle, one sitting in the front passenger seat and one in the back. According to the report, when the driver made the proposal to the boy the passenger in the back seat pushed the driver’s seat and told him to “shut up.”
“It (the passenger’s comments) could possibly mean this was the drivers idea of a joke,” said Erik Raney of the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department. “Regardless we take these things serious and are trying to find the car. Just to confirm that he (the driver) is not looking for an opportunity.”
Though there have been sightings of the vehicle in the area, Police have not made any contact with the driver or passengers. The driver is described as a Hispanic male in his 20’s with dark skin, a trimmed mustache and black curly flat hair. Anyone who may have information regarding the above report is asked to contact the Solvang Police Department at 686-5000.
