Carrier to visit Santa Barbara

The USS Ronald Reagan, the Navy’s newest and largest aircraft carrier, is scheduled to make a port call at Santa Barbara Jan. 11 through Jan. 14. The Reagan’s 4,000-plus crew will be the largest contingent of sailors to call at Santa Barbara since President Theodore Roosevelt’s Great White Fleet visited a century ago. Tours of the ship will not be available to the general public, but members of the community can participate in an adopt-a-sailor program, hosting a member of the crew in their home or by taking a sailor to lunch or dinner. Anyone interested in adopting a sailor should visit the website www.SBNL.org to download and mail or fax the form.
