MONTEREY
(AP) — The David and Lucile Packard Foundation is donating $25 million to build
a research center focused on protecting the world’s oceans.
The
Center for Ocean Solutions in Monterey will provide a forum where marine
scientists can develop solutions to overfishing, coastal runoff, climate change
and other ocean threats.
It
will also offer research fellowships to graduate and postdoctoral students as
well as government and private sector leaders.
The
center will be jointly run by Stanford University, the Monterey Bay Aquarium
and their nearby research institutions.
