Drivers walk away
from motorcycle-car pileup
Four vehicles were involved in a pile-up on Mission Drive
across from Santa Ynez Valley Union High the evening of May 13 delaying traffic
briefly, but all involved were able to walk away. The accident occurred at
approximately 5 p.m. at 2975 Mission Drive.
Waiting for the light to turn green was Russell Hicks, 55,
of Santa Ynez, driving a 2004 white Toyota truck, with David Bazzell, 24, of Santa Ynez, on a 2007 F-7 Yamaha motorcycle
behind him; behind Bazell was a 2004 Ford Freestar
minivan driven by Choi Yong of Buellton.
When the light turned green, Christina Bosco,
18, of Solvang, driving a 2004 white Civic LX, approached the line of cars and
motorcycles but apparently failed to reduce her speed to avoid colliding with
the minivan, which then collided with the motorcycle and truck, according to
California Highway Patrol Officer R. Franco at the scene.
In the pile-up, Bazzell was
forced off his motorcycle, which became wedged underneath the van.
Bazzell declined medical attention, as
did the other drivers.
