Sheriff
dept. contracted for supplemental security at Chumash Casino
The Chumash Casino resort and Santa Ynez Band of Chumash
Indians has negotiated a new contract with the county sheriff’s department to
provide law enforcement during special events, on a cost reimbursement basis.
The request was approved unanimously at the County Board
of Supervisors’ hearing on May 13 for supplemental security services through
June 30, 2010, in an amount that reimburses actual, direct costs.
The contract allows the department to invoice for actual
costs incurred.
New
speed limits and stop signs adopted
The speed limit on Pine Street in Santa Ynez will be
decreased to 15 miles per hour following an unanimous
vote by the Board of Supervisors on May 13 to adopt the revised speed limits at
its meeting May 20.
Speed limits also were changed to 15 mph on Randolph Road
and San Simeon Drive in the Goleta area, Aldebaran
Avenue in the Vandenberg Village area, Via Lato, Calle Seis and Via Semi in the
Mission Hills area, Shaw Street in the Los Alamos area, Point Sal Road in the Casmalia area, Sandalwood Drive in the Tangelwood

State Assembly bill 321 allows local authorities to
establish a 15-mph limit in residential districts or a highway with a posted
speed limit of 30 miles per hour or lower when approaching within 500 feet of a
school or school grounds.
Several schools and residents requested an adjusted speed
limit since the bill passed.
A review of county schools determined the elementary
schools meeting the criteria and the county will continue to review further
modifications to other school areas meeting the criteria.
The board also adopted a resolution to establish stop
signs at the intersection of Cota and Tivola in Santa Ynez, and at Coiner Court and Coiner Street
at the intersection with Foxen Lane in Los
Alamos.
