Trespassing
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report by an employee
of Cachuma Village that a man had been seen trespassing by a village resident.
The employee made contact with the suspected trespasser and told the
36-year-old man that he was on private property and to leave. The man then
re-entered the property and disappeared into the brush. Responding deputies
conducted a search and later found a man walking along Highway 154 near San
Lucas Ranch fitting the description of the trespasser. Deputies noted that the
man appeared dirty, covered in stickers and spider webs, and had soaking wet
shoes and pants. The deputies determined that the man had followed one of the
streams from Cachuma Village through the adjacent San Lucas Ranch property. The
man could not produce any identification and deputies determined that the name
he gave was fictitious. The Cachuma Village employee signed a citizen’s arrest
form for trespassing and the deputies took the man into custody, whereupon he
then identified himself with his correct name. The man confessed that he gave a
false name as there was a warrant for his arrest out of Santa Cruz. The man was
