Solvang Chamber mixer kicks off summer events

 

Approximately 100 guests were greeted with  leis at the Solvang Chamber of Commerce mixer June 12 at Santa Barbara Bank and Trust on Mission Drive.

To get into the Aloha spirit, in addition to leis, attendees were treated to a wide selection of fresh fruit, crackers and cheeses, followed by barbecued fresh shrimp, glazed pork ribs, and steak bites with a tangy sauce, prepared by Willie Martinez of Ono Catering.

Local varietals were poured to complement the abundant spread of food.

The bank’s Solvang branch manager, Jody Knoell, thanked the group and her staff for continued support. She and Buellton branch manager Debbie Reed said they were very pleased at the big crowd that came.

 

“We had a really nice turn-out. It was nice to see new faces and familiar faces,” said Knoell.

Chamber President Linda Johansen brought members up-to-date on upcoming Chamber events, including the second annual Solvang Jazz Festival to be held Sept. 26 through 28 featuring five jazz groups and the Rotary 4th of July parade.

“Let’s make Solvang shine for the 4th of July,” said Solvang Mayor Linda Jackson, who also is the chamber’s executive director.

“We ask that you all come out and volunteer to help make our city look good for our guests,” Jackson said.

Anyone wishing to participate in a Solvang clean-up party is welcome, she said.

To join in to help, meet at the Vet’s Hall on June 28, at 8:30 a.m. On Independence Day, Solvang will stage its annual fireworks display.

 

In other Chamber news, a handful of limited edition prints of Copenhagen Drive by artist Ted Youngkin still are available. The price is $200. The original work is at city hall. Twenty-five signed and numbered copies were made, and a portion of the price may be tax-deductible.

The Chamber also is taking reservations for a nine-day, everything-included tour to China for chamber members and associates for $1,799 round-trip. A meeting will be held July 8 for interested persons.

The Buellton Chamber of Commerce will hold its mixer on June 18 at Buellton Kitchen and Bath Showroom and Edward Jones Investments, both of which are located at 175 McMurray Road.
