Baehner Fournier Vineyards gets the gold at
commercial wine competition
Baehner Fournier Vineyards has received a
gold medal for its V3 label at the 32nd annual Orange County Commercial Wine
Competition held June 7 and 8 in Costa Mesa, in the Meritage
red wine category.
The
Orange County Fair’s competition is the largest and most comprehensive judging
of California wines in the world, say Robert and
Vickie Baehner of Baehner
Fournier Vineyards. “This prestigious award provides further evidence that high
quality Bordeaux-style wine is being made in the Santa Ynez Valley.”
“The
Eastern side of our valley is starting to be recognized for its high quality
Bordeaux-style wine. Of course, the Santa Rita Hills are already world class
for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Rhone varieties so this prestigious gold medal
from the Orange County Fair not only says ‘less is more’ but also says we can
compete very favorably with Napa/Sonoma and Paso Robles,” said Bob Baehner.
The
2005 “V3” blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot
is the inaugural presentation for Baehner Fournier Vineyards
and Winemaker Drew Horton. It is available for tasting at the Wandering Dog
Wine Bar in Solvang.
“Our
Bordeaux-cloned vines love their hilly home. There are only 220 cases!” warns
its website.
