Volare Ristorante
calls it quits
The
epitaph for Volare Ristorante
in Santa Ynez ironically was in the translation of its Italian name: “to fly.”
That’s
just what the Sicilian cuisine restaurant on the corner of Edison and Sagunto
has done after a poor run in the western theme town.
Restaurateur
Tony Lazzara, who left recently from Santa Ynez
airport on a trip to Mexico, said that the downturn in the economy had crippled
the business.
Property
owner Al Spaulding said June 23 that another type of restaurant will be opening
in the prime location at the center of town. Spaulding would not comment
further when asked what theme he was contemplating, saying only that he is
continuing discussions with a prospective operator.
Workers at the building said that the restaurant closed
on June 20 and that everything had to be cleaned out by the end of the month.
