Police chief threatened
The
chief of police in Santa Barbara called for backup June 27 when he allegedly
was threatened with assault while he was attending a relative’s wedding at
Shoreline Park. Chief Cam Sanchez was dressed in his police uniform when he
heard a male voice apparently yelling profanities and “reference to the Chief’s
ethnicity,” according to a press release from the police department.
Wayne
David Scoles, 55, walked toward Sanchez and continued
“yelling and during the contact threatened to assault the Chief,” according to
the release. Scoles allegedly was upset about
homeless people in the park.
Scoles was
taken into custody by arriving officers and taken to the police station. He was
subsequently cited and released for disturbing the peace and challenging
someone to fight, officials said.
