Verizon unveils wireless broadband in
valley
Verizon
Wireless recently rolled out its EV-DO Rev. A network
on the Central Coast, making improved high speed wireless broadband computer connections
available to subscribers.
The
Evolution-Data Optimized Revision A connections use
Verizon’s cellular telephone network to link computers to the internet,
obviating the need to seek out a WiFi hotspot to log
on.
Verizon
Wireless was the first national wireless provider to commercially launch a
high-speed wireless broadband network in the United States.
EV-DO
Rev. A is an expanded wireless broadband network that provides Verizon Wireless
customers with data uplink speeds significantly faster than the company’s
national EV-DO network, which the company first launched in Northern California
in June 2006.
With EV-DO coming to the Santa Ynez Valley area,
customers with compatible devices can download files up to 20 times faster and
upload files up to 10 times faster — meaning they can download a small
PowerPoint® presentation or a large PDF file in about 8 seconds and upload the
same-sized file in less than 13 seconds.
