Road projects in progress, finished
One
road project in South County has been completed and one in North County is in
progress.
Construction
will continue through July to install a concrete median barrier on Highway 101
between Santa Rosa Road and the Highway 1 interchange. Beginning about two
miles south of Santa Rosa Road, the fast lane on Highway 101 will be closed in
both directions from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 7 a.m.
to 1 p.m. on Fridays. Delays will be approximately 10 minutes.
Expected
to cost $3 million, the project is to improve safety and reduce traffic
accidents on the highway, according to Caltrans officials. General contractor
is John Madonna Construction Co., San Luis Obispo.
The
South County project recently was completed. Part of an ongoing Tajiguas Landfill Expansion Project, the construction
allowed all weather access within the Tajiguas
Landfill facility in Goleta. The existing parking and internal roadway to the
top deck waste filling area was removed and paved with asphalt concrete.
Approximately 5,200 linear feet of roadway was then constructed, for a total
cost of $565,108.
Santa
Barbara County’s Board of Supervisors received a letter Jan. 8 from the Santa
Barbara Public Works Department stating the work had been completed by the
contractor, Union Asphalt, Inc., Santa Maria.
The
project was ordered as part of a mandate to comply with the environmental
standards as outlined in the environmental impact report.
Funding
was provided by the Resource Recovery & Waste Management Enterprise Fund’s
Reserve for Capital Assets. The project engineer was John Haines.
