PCPA presents
“Othello”
Othello’s
demise because of jealousy, one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies, plays in
the Marian Theatre in Santa Maria from Feb. 7 through March 2. In the role of
Othello will be Corey Jones, a new actor with the Pacific Conservatory of the
Performing Arts.
Jones
is making a 360-degree transformation from his latest character, Max Detwiler, in this season’s holiday hit, “The Sound of
Music.”
Iago will be played by Andrew Philpot, and
Vanessa Ballam plays the ill-fated Desdemona. Also cast are resident artists Michael Jenkinson
as Roderigo, Richard Gallegos as Cassio,
Peter Hadres as Brabantio,
Elizabeth Stuart as Emilia, Ricardo Valencia as Duke, and Omar Ricks as
Montano.
Othello
is directed by Patricia M. Troxel and Callum Morris is the composer. Scenic designer is Michael
J. Dempsey, costume designer is Misti Bradford,
lighting designer is Colleen Dowling and sound designer is Monica Falatic. Fight directors are Mark Booher
and Peter S. Hadres. Christine Collins is the
production stage manager.

2007-2008 Winter-Spring PCPA season also includes two plays by Yasmina, “Reza Art” and “Life x 3,” presented in rotating
repertory; and “Godspell.” PCPA is now in its 44th

Wildling plans open
house
School
teachers and administrators, as well as all parents who home school their
children, are invited to an open house at The Wildling Art Museum, 2329 Jonata St., Los Olivos, on Jan.
25 from 4 to 6 p.m. Besides reviewing the current exhibition, “Members Collect
III,” the group will learn more about the Wildling’s extensive educational
programs, teacher resources, and its new classroom program, ArtSmart,
as well as participate in networking with other educators. Wine and other
refreshments will be served to those attending. The evening is sponsored by the

Gallery to show
acrylic art
“Nature’s
Bounty: People and Produce,” will be featured at Cypress Gallery during
February. The show, acrylic art by Tonya Schultz of Lompoc, will begin with an
artist’s reception Feb. 1 at the gallery, 110 E. Cypress Ave., Lompoc, from 5
to 7 p.m. A marriage and family counselor with Valley Medical Group, Lompoc,
Schultz taught school in Lompoc and uses her talents in many areas, including
quilting, gardening, and knitting.
Her
acrylics are abstract dimensions with rich colors.
Artists needed for
two projects
Artists
are needed to paint a mural in Lompoc, according to the Lompoc Mural Society.
The
mural, 8 feet by 20 feet, will depict the 1923 Naval
tragedy at Honda Point. The society will provide research information and other
details. Selected artists will be given panels for the mural and receive $5,000
when the work is completed and accepted by the society. Deadline for the mural
applications is March 3.
The
society also is seeking applications for its Mural-In-A-Day project. A master
artist for the event will be responsible for mural design concept and
rendering, a preliminary cartoon, paint mixing, and coordinating the painting
of the mural with volunteer artists.
Supplies
are provided by the society. The master artist will be paid $5,000 by the society
for the project. Deadline is March 17.

Wildling to show free
oceanic wildlife films
A
documentary, “The Blue Planet: Seas of Life,” will be presented Feb. 1 as part
of the Wildling Art Museum’s Free Friday Flicks. Narrated by David Attenborough
and produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation, the film, an exploration
of the ocean, took five years and $10 million to finish. The 98-minute film has
two segments: “Ocean World,” about the Blue Whale and the oceans it inhabits,
and “Frozen Seas,” about the Arctic and Antarctic wildlife habitats.
The
film screening begins at 7 p.m. at the museum’s administrative offices, 2948 Nojoqui, Suite 4, in Los Olivos.
The
first Friday of each month, the public is invited to the Wildling Art Museum
for its free film presentations about nature or art. The Museum also provides
free popcorn and cookies, wine, water and soft drinks. The films are
underwritten by a grant from the Valley Foundation. Reservations are not
required, but space is limited and seats are available on a first come, first

Ensemble schedules
concert
The
spring concert for the Valley Wind Ensemble will be March 9 at 2:30 p.m. at the
Old Mission Santa Inés. Open to the public and free
of charge, the event features the Ensemble’s concert band of 40 instruments,
which has been performing for 17 years.

Rehearsals
are held Thursdays at 7 p.m. at the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School music
room.
