Britta (Goldie) Schmidt

 

Britta (Goldie) Schmidt, 63, of Solvang passed away in Azle, Texas January 11, 2008, after a brave battle with cancer.

 

She was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and immigrated to the United States with her parents, Harold and Ragnhild Agergaard, sister Aase and brother Jess, in 1953.

 

She graduated from Santa Ynez Valley Union High School in 1960. She worked for the Forest Service as a dispatcher. She then joined the Post Office in Buellton. She became the postmaster at age 28 in 1972 and continued until 2000.

 

Goldie was a charter member of the Danish Sisterhood. She married Peter Schmidt who had a donut shop in 1978 in the Nielsen complex in Buellton and later opened Sambos Restaurant in Buellton.

 

They had two children, Tanja and Jason. They moved to Azle, Texas. Goldie became the postmaster there also. Peter opened another restaurant.

 

Goldie is survived by her son Jason of Azle, Texas; her brother Jess Agergaard of San Juan Capistrano; her sister Aase Christensen of Santa Barbara; a  granddaughter, Abigail, and her stepfather, Wade.
