to dine at Clementine’s
The
Solvang Parks and Recreation Department is traveling south to a Carpinteria landmark, Clementine’s Steakhouse, and invites
area residents to take a night off and enjoy a good old-fashioned meal with
great steaks and mouth-watering pies.
The trip
is scheduled for Jan. 31, from 5:15 to 8:45 p.m., and departs from the
Veterans’ Hall, Solvang. The cost is $10 for transportation only. Participants
must pre-register with Solvang Parks and Recreation.

Explore Museum Row in LA
The
famous Museum Row on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles offers three world-class
museums for area residents to enjoy when the Solvang Parks and Recreation
Department sponsors an excursion on Feb. 5 from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The group
will depart from the Veterans’ Hall in Solvang.
Participants
can experience an art collection at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; go
back in time at the Page Museum/La Brea Tar Pits; or relive the history of the
automobile at the Petersen Automotive Museum. A stop at the famed Los Angeles
Farmer’s Market is included.
The cost
is $25 for transportation only and does not cover admission to the
museums.

Choir to perform at UCSB
The a
cappella group, Sweet Honey In The Rock, will perform
Feb.21 at 8 p.m. at UCSB Campbell Hall.
The group
has performed its soulful and gospel spirituals, hymns and other music for 35
years and recently released a compact disc celebrating its African-American
legacy and traditions.
The group
includes Ysaye Maria Barnwell, Nitanju
Bolade Casel, Aisha Kahlil, Carol Maillard, Louise
Robinson and Shirley Childress Saxton.
Before
the performance in Santa Barbara, the audience can enjoy a “soul food buffet”

Best of film festival to be shown
The Best
of the 32nd annual Banff Mountain Film Festival will be shown Feb. 26 and 27 at
UCSB’s Campbell Hall at 7:30 p.m. The presentation is part of the Banff World
Tour, which brings 15 of the festival’s films to Santa Barbara.
Films to
be shown include “Trial & Error,” “20 Seconds of Joy,” “Balance,” “Higher
Ground,” “Fantastic,” “Badgered,” “King Lines: Es Pontas,”
“Committed: To Grit,” “24 Solo,” “Climber,” “Aerialist,” “Inner Balance,”
“In-Flux,” and “Entropy.”

Health care examined in film
The
controversial documentary, “Salud!” will be presented
Feb. 25 at UCSB’s Campbell Hall at 7:30 p.m. Filmed in Cuba, South America,
Gambia, Honduras and Venezuela, the film examines healthcare in the world.
Before
the screening, Diane Appelbaum, U.S. director of
Medical Education Cooperation with Cuba, will give an introduction. More

Chamber music scheduled
An
evening of chamber music will be presented March 2 at 7 p.m. at UCSB’s Campbell
Hall.
The trio,
Philip Glass, composer and pianist; Wendy Sutter, cellist; and Mick Rossi, percussionist,
will give an 80-minute program including “Tissues,” from “Naqoyqatsi;”
“Metamorphosis;” “Etudes;” “Songs and Poems for Cello,” and “The Orchard.”

Artists invited to show work
Fifteen
local artists from the Artists Guild of the Santa Ynez Valley have been invited
to show their work in the Spring Show at the Rehabilitation Institute Meisel Gallery, 2415 De La Vina
St., in Santa Barbara.
The group
will be honored at a reception Feb. 22, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The show
will run Feb.18 through May 2. Art can be viewed Mondays through Fridays from 9
a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The
Rehabilitation Institute uses art as part of the healing process.
The
gallery was established by Harris Meisel, M.D., who
says that “art has a way of transforming a sterile medical environment into a
setting of color and inspiration.”
Dr. Meisel, who
also is an artist, displays his work at the Institute. For more information
