It wasn’t your traditional
Halloween spectacle.
A full moon lit up horses in
costume, rodeo clowns and trick-or-treaters, who put a twist on the usual
Halloween fun at Live Oak campground Saturday.
The children of the families
of the Backcountry Horsemen of California, Los Padres Unit, who participated in
the group’s annual Camp and Ride, got into the spirit of things when they went
trick-or-treating from campsite to campsite Saturday — some of them from
the backs of their horses.
One particularly agreeable
horse allowed himself to be costumed as Scooby Doo — yes,
they make costumes for horses — with Shaggy (Chloe Mercardante,
12) astride.
From Darth Vader to Little
Red Riding Hood, from witches and princesses to cowboys and the Grim Reaper,
the children collected candy from adults, many of whom
joined in the costume fun.
