A 79-year-old woman on her way to a hair appointment Tuesday crashed her Lexus SUV into Brent & Jeffs Flooring store in Santa Ynez, knocking down a wooden pillar and part of the brick wall bordering the entrance.

The Santa Ynez resident, who did not want to be identified, told authorities that at about 9:30 a.m. she was pulling her vehicle in front of the store, located at 3568 Sagunto St., and mistook the gas pedal for the brake.

Witnesses say the SUV jumped the curb and then flipped on its left side. County Fire Department officials arrived on the scene shortly after, stabilizing the car with rubber blocks before pulling the woman from the sunroof.

The woman was not injured in the accident.

Store managers Josh McClure, and his father, Brent, were inside the building near the entrance when the accident happened.

We heard a big boom and ran out and saw the vehicle crashing into the pillar, he said. My dad and I checked to make sure she was conscious. She was fine and moving around inside the vehicle anxiously. We calmed her down and called 911.

I saw her turning into the parking lot, and then her vehicle lurched forward, said Brent. I asked her if she was OK, and she just said she was fine and wanted to get her hair cut. The building can be fixed, he added. Im just glad shes not hurt.

Firefighter paramedics checked on the woman and released her. She was later seen walking toward the nearby Allure Salon with her hairdresser.
