Santa Ynezís Cody Uhrig and Connor Reck traveled to Tulare, halfway between Fresno and Bakersfield, for the AAU Junior Olympic Qualifying Meet, June 18-19.

To earn a trip to the National Junior Olympics in Norfolk, Va., in August, they had to come in the top four.

Cody qualified in all three of his races, coming in second in the 400 at 49.64, fourth in the 100 at 11.32 and third in the 200 with a personal record of 22.40. Reck earned his spot in his only race by coming in first in the 800 with a personal best by 3 seconds at 52.16. That time places him third in California for the junior class in 2010 and 9th in the nation. He has dropped 10 seconds from his time since returning from an injury one month ago. Both runners are planning on attending the National Junior Olympics.
