More than 200 cyclists consisting of Wounded warriors, soldiers and supporters will swing through Buellton and arrive in Solvang on Thursday, Oct. 7, as part of the Ride2Recovery Golden State Challenge, a weeklong biking expedition to Southern California. The 450-mile ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles is an annual event sponsored by United Healthcare to support rehabilitation programs for the nationís veterans.
The veterans participating in the Ride2Recovery include paraplegics and double-amputees, people with fractured skulls and gun-shot limbs and some who were burned beyond recognition.
Organizers are asking the public to line the route to cheer on the cyclists as they complete the 65-mile leg that takes them to the Solvang Holiday Inn Express.
The cyclists will set off from the American Religion post in Orcutt after lunch on Highway 135, take Highway 1 past Vandenberg Village, then turn onto Purisima Road and onto Highway 246 from Lompoc through Buellton, before ending in Solvang at approximately 2:30 p.m.
