The Santa Ynez High boys’ varsity basketball team Monday beat Morro Bay, 57-44. Connor Reck led all scorers with 19 points, including making 8 out of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter. The host Pirates adjusted to the absence of leading rebounder Wyatt Garley, who is out for the rest of league action with an ankle sprain. Sophomore Bobby Moir, up from junior varsity, grabbed 13 rebounds while scoring 12 points. Randy Brittain (above) grabbed another 9 rebounds while scoring 5 points. Dane Bolitho added 10 pts, Zach Foss had 8 pts and Colton Aho rounded out the scoring with 3 points. In the previous game versus St. Joseph, the Pirates lost 48-76. Brittain almost earned a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
