Buellton LibrarySummer Reading Program, June 15- July 20
Solvang Friday Night FlicksThe six free movie dates are: June 17 (Despicable Me, 95 min., PG), July 1, July 15, July 29, Aug. 12 and Aug. 26. Enjoy fresh popcorn, hot chocolate (for $1) and great family entertainment under the stars. Also in Buellton at 7:30 p.m. on the Avenue of Flags (median next to Tonos Restaurant and Gracian Ag) on June 24, July 22, and Sept 2. The first movie on June 24 will be held in conjunction with the Buellton Rotary’s Central Coaster Car Show event and the feature will be Disney’s Cars. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Enjoy fresh popcorn, hot cocoa. Show begins at dark.
SYV Family Fun RunsThe Santa Ynez Valley Family Fun Runs are back for the 2011 Summer Series. The first 5K Run/Walk of the summer will take place on Thursday, June 23 at Oak Park in Buellton. The Fun Runs now welcome dogs on leash with their owner for either a full 5K or 1.5 mile course. Registration starts at 6 p.m., with Run/Walk start at 6:30 p.m., with events and activities for all ages. The two-loop course promises variety and the chance for spectators to cheer on their friends and family. 5K participants will receive an event T-shirt and entry into a prize raffle. Also included in the evening’s activities is a 1.5 mile kids’ run for children 12 and under. These runs are oriented toward youth fitness education. All children’s run participants will receive an event T-shirt and entry into a prize raffle. During and after the races, all participants and spectators are invited to enjoy fellowship and music in the park. The 5K run admission is $12 and children 12 and under are $7. Proceeds from the events will benefit local non-profits including the Buellton Community Educational Foundation and ensure that we can continue to put on future Fun Runs. The next runs will be July 21 and Aug. 25.

The Buellton Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a workshop presented by PRmarketingroup of Buellton, on how to use Constant Contact in your social media and print media marketing. This Constant Contact workshop will be held at the Buellton Chamber Office located at: 597Avenue of the Flags, Buellton. Saturday, July 30YFL Cheerleading Car Wash - Due to a scheduling conflict with the June 25 car wash, it had to be rescheduled. It is now from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Nielsen’s Market, in the back parking lot.
The Western Horse and Mule Show at the SYV Equestrian Center on 195 N. Refugio Road. First class starts at 8 a.m. Classes will include Halter, Showmanship, Trail, Horsemanship and Pleasure. There will be Ranch Horse classes as well. This year we have added a special Pleasure class for participants of the Therapeutic Riding Program. You never know who you will meet when Zoo To You comes with their Animal Ambassadors. We don’t actually pet the animals, but we will admire them from the audience. Los Alamos Chair Faire from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Lined up are all and any kind of chairs along the sidewalk for a chair show and sale. Prizes and musical chairs, too. There are three categories for the sculptures of chairs: 1) Indoor, 2) Outdoor and 3) Repeating Object Designs. There will be entry forms for the chair sculptures, commitment due by June 30 with entry fee of $10.

Monday, Sept. 26The Solvang Centennial Committee is still taking reservations for our scheduled trip to Denmark. Departure is set for Sept. 26, with a charter bus from Solvang to the Los Angeles airport for scheduled flights into Copenhagen with a return from Aalborg, Solvang’s Sister City, Oct. 6. Saturday, Oct. 15First annual Solvang Faeriefest. An arts and music festival to be held at the Solvang Theaterfest from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is an all-ages event that will feature guests and local artists. Featuring belly dancers, musicians, dance groups, costume contest, face-painting, professional photography, arts-and-crafts for sale and activities, drum circles, and dancing. This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to get together in the magical spirit of fae!
