The UCSB Sedgwick Reserve has developed a new program that combines public lectures with an annual docent training program. You can preview the program at an Open House on at 3 p.m. Program consists of a series of lectures on the natural world in the Santa Ynez Valley and Santa Barbara County with subjects such as: geology; wildflowers; birding; native oaks and grasslands; general ecology; mammals and insects; Chumash history; astronomy, and more. “In Reality” - Two new works by screenwriter, Gerald DiPego, 6 p.m. The theater is located above Manny’s Restaurant, corner of Mission Drive and Alisal Road in Solvang. A dinner will be served by Manny’s in the spacious lobby before the show. Tickets are $35 each, including dinner. A no-host bar will also be available. The theater will open at 6 p.m., dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m., curtain at 7:45 p.m. for the show. Half the profits from these presentations will be donated to Arts Outreach.


Sunday, Nov. 13

Rattlesnake Avoidance Training for Dogs, 9 a.m.-7 p.m. at PAWS Park in Buellton. During the day-long training session, Beaman and Gables will use live rattlesnakes that have had their mouths muzzled to prevent them from biting. The training will take place in a controlled environment, using a remote training collar system adjusted to each dogs’ individual temperament, personality and physical response characteristics. $90 per dog; reservations required.
