For the week ending Nov. 6

Trout fishing is getting the top billing, as the recent trout plant has anglers catching limits of fat Calaveras hatchery fish. The best bite has been from shore in Drakes Cove, E point and Harvey’s Bay. Throwing Kastmasters, Panther Martins, Thomas bouyants and Rapalas all took rainbows to 3 pounds. Powerbait and ’crawlers also worked well for soaking bait. Trollers flat-lined a variety of lures around the log boom for limits or near limits. Bass fishing slowed with the cold front moving in and plummeting water temperatures, though there were fish reported on spinnerbaits and spoons. Catfish still in the mix and cut mackerel fished in Harveys, and Cachuma Bay took whiskerfish to 8 pounds. Crappie were slow, as were panfish. Bowfishing for carp was a bit slower, but the few archers that ventured out did shoot a few, with an 8-pound average.
