Guitar students of Song in My Heart Studio on Dec. 11 performed solo, duos and ensemble pieces in Santa Ynez Presbyterian Church in Solvang. Students of all ages from Santa Ynez Valley, Newbury Park, Montecito, Santa Barbara and Goleta demonstrated their skills in clarity of sound, guitar technique and performance etiquette. Most students played a repertoire piece followed by a holiday tune. The solo portion began with Reidar Wordal Siciliana by Carcassi and followed by “O Come, All Ye Faithful.” The solo program ended with Riley Huffman playing Waltz by Meissonnier, and his rendition of Jeff Buckley’s “Hallelujah.”

The ensemble portion of the program started with three sets of guitar duos followed by Guitar Ensembles. The advanced ensemble, under the baton of Phillip Conrad played Chorale’s from St. Matthew Passion No. 44 by Bach followed by “Carol of the Bells,” the intermediate ensemble played “Long Long Ago” followed by “Jingle Bells.” The program ended with the guitar orchestra.
